I am currently looking very seriously at a '10 KTM Duke 690. As I have asked around, very few people have ridden the Duke 690.

What off the beaten path bikes would you all recommend?

I wouldn't recommend a bike a I haven't owned or ridden...and that would be a fairly impressive number. Since you asked...I recommend you give a Moto Guzzi Griso a look. Even though MG no longer makes that model, they are a still available at some dealerships as left over New-Old_Stock. Even respectful used Griso's are worth considering. Just make sure your late model 1200SE Griso is on your list and that it is the reliable rollerized tappet model (not the flat tappet engined Griso's...stay away from those). Your best bet are the 2014 - 2016 model years as they contain the most current revisions to the model. I currently have a 2015 Griso that is a blast to ride and that platform can be customized to accommodate every "taste" from canyon carvers to touring (more than a few have found their way onto the track).

Good luck with your search, Nick.

If you can find a 91-94 HD FXR EVO for a Good Price .. Grab It ... Would Recommend the 2000 FXR4 CVO which I owned but they will Cost you .. Only thing will add if you are a Big Guy 6'2" or More Pass on it .. Have seen guys that Big Ride them but while it's the best Frame HD ever made does not fit well for the Bigger Guys ..

I agree with you on this. My cousin has a 2014 Guzzi California Special - rode the Tail of the Dragon with him - That is one Excellent Motorcycle.

The BIG thing, Nick, is What Do You Want the Bike to do? and What do You Want to do With the Bike? So many choices out there and it depends on what your main purpose of the bike is going to be.

Sonny Barger said of this bike "If I wasn't who I am, I would be riding a Honda ST1100"

I really like them, I had a '90 model and a '96 model and even went with a ST-1300, but it just didn't have the charisma the the 1100 had for me.
I was the second and the fourth owner of the '90 model.... the one in the picture.
I once owned a Jawa in Bakersfield Cal.
and I did the very first VW powered 3 wheel bike..... ever!
Registered in Cal as a 1967 special construction.
I only have one existing faded Polaroid picture of it with me in the picture.
It was in the movie "Hells Angels on Wheels" for about 15 seconds, but it started at cottage industry of 3 wheel VW powered motorcycles.
