No, there is no current rule like that for the twins. The HD XR750 has been racing 40 years and there is no production version, though they've tried a few times. The new HD XG750R isn't production based either.

There is a proposed rule change for the 2020 season to allow only production engines. Plenty of time to change the rules between now and then, and it may just be a production class in addition to what they have now.

I'm not sure where this two year rule came from. From the AMA rulebook:

Engine Displacement i. 649cc – 999.9cc with the following restrictions:

    1. Production Engines:

    a. Engines that were originally under 750cc may be bored and stroked but may not exceed 750cc as a final displacement.

    2. Racing-only Engines [Meaning not production, like the 40+ year XR750]:

    a. Racing-only engines may not exceed 750cc with a maximum allowable overbore of 0.045” per cylinder.
    b. Liquid cooled racing-only engines may not exceed 750cc. There is no provision for overbore.

The rule is from DMG as well as AMA and will not be in the current rule book. It will be in the 2019 book, and has been promulgated to all concerned party's. It was written to get rid of the XR750 as matter of fact, and wrote up 3 years ago.

The XG is in fact based on the Street XG, and uses production cases, cranks and heads. As does the Ninja 650 and Yamaha F07. The racing only rule will be gone in 2019, along with all racing only engines. This is in reference only to engines, Frames will still be custom for the Twins class.

If you read back thru Indians own publications regarding Dirt Track, you will see they themselves reference this. It was one of the reasons FTR development was so hurried. They wanted to take advantage of this 2 year window.

The current FTR750 is already approved THROUGH 2019. Also, the XG750R is listed as a race only engine, though I'm sure they could change that.

And many people may not know that Gas blends can void your warranty

The EPA says 15% ethanol is not safe to use in car and truck engines older than 2001 and not safe in smaller engines like lawnmowers, snowmobiles, motorcycles or boats.
If E-15 ain't safe what the hell can ever run on E-85? Government idiots.

It's All about Gov't Grants and Funding and keeping the Politician's Cronies in the Money. It's not about being Green or doing what's better for the people or the environment.

I think we're going to see more custom color paint jobs on the Elite model and maybe some other models.

I was at my dealer yesterday and one of the owner's said that there are 3 new models coming, but didn't/wouldn't say if they were just "color" changes. He did let it slip that one of them is supposed to be 750...maybe a scrambler to address the current fad for that kind of bike. I guess we'll see soon enough.

Maybe a custom similar to this to your party rides.
