Dealer says they use Windex to clean the bikes.

I have some HD Denim paint cleaner.

So used to always keeping painted surfaces waxed.

Just wiping matt paint with Windex sounds a bit harsh over time too me.

    Whats everyone using?

Dawn Soap at my house. Windshield washer at the gas station or Rain when I am on the road - which is most of the time! :p

Brian, from Klock Werks, has some Matte Paint cleaner that he sells that works really well. He gave me a sample and I tried it out - it works really well.

I recall when i was young being told never wash your car with dish soap.

    Now Indian recommends it.

I will want to put some type of protection on there that does not make it shiny, just not sure what yet. Hoping there is a tried and true product people agree on.

In the 'old day's' you were working on colored paints. Now days it's a 'clearcoat' that was applied to seal the paint; much better than any was, etc could ever do.

Dawn dish soap and other dish detergents strip off existing waxes. Unless you are going to re-wax after one of those washed, forget it. The car washes at auto stores do not strip off the wax already on the vehicle. Matte paints have become the cats ass lately and I am sure chemical companies have got it down to what strips off what, what cleans what, Ammonia in Windex is fairly strong so use it to clean chrome where it works best. After a good cleaning and a good carnuba wax AFTER the real waxm just use a damp wrung out terry cloth to wipe it down. Been working good for decades. Usually a yardstick deep shine will never happen with factory paints anyways. Get some body shop to really give your bike a deep candy apple color and just watch the difference.

Thanks. With the matt finish I want to protect it but not polish it. Hoping someone will direct.

Well a matte 'wax' or protector/cleaner is just that.............not what you or me have been used to using for quite awhile. Matte is not supposed to shine or polish. Thats why it is a matte finish which is very popular now even with cars. Some aircraft use a matte type finish for protection and non - glare. Its different, its kinda cool, but if you want to use it as a mirror, have a candy apple or real deep many coats of clearcoat finish. By someone who knows how to do it. Usually a bike show or car event of any size may have a booth representing some paint place. Now places like DuPont and PPG and Glasurit can offer matte finishes with any color imaginable. Cadillac had a black cherry color that was on a couple models back in the late 90's and into the 2000's. Very nice on a bike. Use your imagination when painting but keep to the matte color cleaners. Windex on chrome. Find some cloth baby diapers.............they work real good

Klock Werks had their Matte Finish Cleaner/Protectant specially formulated. It works very well.

Right on. Just ordered a bottle. Still have som HD denim paint cleaner. I imagine it will work ok too

I use to use Pig Spit on the black parts of my HD engine. Dark horse the entire engine is black.

Probably best just to keep it clean.

I will use it because its ammonia free. The ammonia over time using Windex was a concern.

I use the Chemical Guys stuff. The sealer and detail spray are fantastic. The wash is nice also.

Worse than just stripping off wax, Dawn and other dish detergents will, over time, draw oils out of the paints and I assume render them chalky -- per the internet (disclaimer), but I've quit using Dawn to get rid of lovebugs, which it did better than anything I'd used before. Since most of my paint is on plastic, I've been using Plastix, which I'd had for my windshield. (NEVER use anything with alcohol or ammonia in it on plexiglass . . . ).

I'll echo the F11. New to the matte finish crowd, but am impressed so far. Love the ease of application and the ability to use it on the entire bike.

After using for 17 months will never use anything else .. The main reason is for 6 months after an easy no heavy rubbing 20 minute Application, all I had to do is lightly wipe it down with a damp microfiber cloth and came right back to looking Showroom .. Just an easy quick application once every 6 months and then basically just ride other than quick wipe down .. Well worth the price to me .. Will try and catch some pictures of a few denim/Matte Bikes that swear by using cheaper household stuff and they have a dull look to them .. While Matte will never shine like Gloss, with F11 it keeps the Original Look without Fading over time and that's exactly why I bought it to protect it not shine it ..

Nice to have options, will keep it in mind, but after catching a couple of good sales on F11 will be a while before need anything else .. Thinking about doing the Dyna with it, when cools down a little in this FL heat .. If just looks near as good as it does when spend close to 2 hours with it using Meguiars Best , No More Wax On Wax Off on that one either ..
