Anyways the place has interesting history. And you can climb up to the top of the lighthouse. I complain a lot about Miami but there are some real cool things to do down here. If anyone has any cool summertime stuff please share. Oh the second pic is looking east towards the Atlantic.

I've never been to Miami. I need to stop in on my way to Key West....assuming I ever get to ride again.

Middle of the road. Well, the hawk won. He tried to fly away with his prize but he dropped it. So I took a quick pic. The hawk waited till I was done to come back for it.

    Amber waves of grain.

    Lazy day at the lake.

That's what's going on in southern Illinois.

I think we should plan an Indian Rendevouz (non sanctioned) event in KW.....never been there myself....and frankly do not want to endure the extremely boring ride from Upstate SC to Miami...but it would be a cool place to meet up and hang....

What to you think Mannimal @Bobby Jesus ? - John

Have never been down the Florida east coast so I can't compare, but the west coast, though longer and slower, is interesting -- US 19, 98. Extremely light traffic south of I-10 until Clearwater, where it can become an ooze at rush hour. Crossing west to east in the Everglades will give your suspension a workout. Sugar cane trucks on pavement laid over swamp produced an . . . interesting . . . experience, unless that highway's been improved since I was on it five or six years ago.

I 75 (alligator alley) was improved years ago. The only ting you have to worry about is keeping up with traffic. People tend to fly on that stretch of road. Tamiami trail has also been improved. And it’s a much more scenic route. Some pretty cool stops along the way.

Good to know. I crossed it east to west some time back, can't remember when or why I was down there -- probably some of my wife's state organization stuff -- and we bottomed out and may actually have gone airborne at one enormous dip.

I drove it when it was 1 lane each way. You had the swamp on either side. If you pulled over you were taking your life into your own hands. Not because of the wildlife but the other drivers. There was not much room for error. There were countless accidents on that stretch which usually resulted in fatalities. Head on collisions were quite common. Especially at night.

That's how I remember it, exactly. It's four-lane now? Gawd -- I wouldn't have thought that much fill dirt existed in the world. Are the Rockies still there?

They also put a fence all the way across on both sides. That’s at least 80 miles. Keeps the critters in check. Now on the tamiami trail they have elevated a few sections. They are trying to let the flow of the Everglades to go back to its natural state. It’s pretty cool to ride over it. Nothing but grass.

The only bugs down there are the tasty Florida lobster. And a few skeeters.
