Planning to pick up a used Indian this week, and I am looking to the "experts" for suggestions. I am considering two different models:

    1. 2015 Chieftain. Red & Ivory Cream, has Stage 2 mods, just under 7k miles, "Ultimate" driver saddle (but no passenger seat or pegs/boards, and I will need them for the wife). luggage rack and rack on to pf each saddlebag. Asking $13,500.

    2. 2016 Springfield. Black, just over 3k miles, everything appears to the stock on this bike, would need to purchase a passenger backrest for the wife, but it does have passenger floorboards. Asking $13,000.

We don't do any real distance riding, as the wife is not up to long times on the bike. Mostly suburb riding, some highway (to sporting events), typically longest time in the saddle is about 2 hours.

Love to hear peoples thoughts. I know everyone has their own opinion, but I am stuck clearly on the fence with this decision.

Thanks....and looking forward to being an Indian family member!!!

    Robert

Both are great bikes. Basically the same bike from the nevk back. The Springfield is a year newer but you don’t have the stereo. The Springfield does have a detachable windshield which gives you two bikes in one. You can’t go wrong either way. I own a 16 Springfield. Worked in Indian sales for 4 years. You will be getting a good bike. But hire a tech to check the bike out before you buy

    Welcome from Southern Illinois.
I'm biased....the Springfield is a great local bike but can be a bike you can take on long trips also.

I've owned two Chieftains because I enjoy pounding out long days exploring the country with my co-pilot. If I was just pushing tin around town or overnighting, I'd have an "aped" Springfield.

Welcome and be assured, you can't make a bad choice here.

They are right, there is no wrong decision to be made here and although I'm only a weed and ride a Scout, (First Run ), my money is on the Springfield,......Such a lovly bike with greater ground clearance I believe,......It's a hard one for you Bud but the beauty is, either way you come out a winner!,.....And welcome by the way, all the way from little old Burtland where cool, fast and RED Scouts were invented!!!!!, (Thank you Burt!:p:D:rolleyes:;))
    Regards,
    Alpal

Welcome from Western Pa. I own a 2016 Springfield like the one you are considering. I love my bike, It comes down to fairing and color preference. 99F63F54-4FE5-4A9E-B074-40760408F666.jpeg

Welcome from central Ohio. Don't think you can go wrong with either. Ride em both and go with what you think. What we think matters not. It's your butt in the saddle. Not trying to be a smart butt...just saying...you gotta do what you gotta do.

I like black bikes.do you like the stage 2 mods on the other? If you don't care for the exhaust or air cleaner then those are basically a wash. Otherwise those are a pretty good value to have with the bike.

I love the look of the Springfield and sure considered it in 2017 .. But opted for the Fairing Goodies and Passenger Floorboards available on the Chieftain also the Oil Cooler option that came with the Chieftain no extra charge for Florida Heat and a High Rate of Speed when I'm rolling on the Super Slab .. The Springfield did not offer one unless added it yourself in 2017 not sure about previous years .. Has to be your call as it's your money just telling it the way I saw it for me ..

Thanks everyone of your opinions and feedback. As of right now, assuming everything goes well with the private purchase, I am going to purchase the '15 Chieftain on Thursday evening. Should that fall through for some reason, I told the dealership yesterday that I would be interested in the Springfield as a fall-back.

So, one way or another, I should officially be a member of the Indian family at this time tomorrow!!

Love red and cream. Next bike may be a Chief with that combo.

Almost a Roadmaster. Get the tan leather classic trunk and you're all done. Very nicely done. Welcome.

Glad to have the tribe grow!
    Nice ride!
I just sold my 2015 Chieftain. Great bike.
I downsized to a Scout, as my wife got her license and a Scout 60.

    Love the 2 tone.

    1 piece of advice!
The fenders tend to rust out pretty bad

Pull em off and undercoat them ASAP.
