Al, where did this material come from?
Out of an old book in the reference only section of a library Bud,......
Nice find. I enjoyed the read.
Burt was a bad azz, no doubt
Plan to visit his hometown as soon as my knee op is done and I'm able to ride distance again,......three days down there, maybe 4 to 6 days in Invercargill,.....three days ride home again via the west Coast of the South Island in order to visit where my Great Great grandparents settled when they migrated out from Prussia in the 1870's. They settled in the coal mining town of Blackball, from which, after a big strike by approx 170 workers, ( three members of the Klempel family involved, ) the New zealand Labour party was founded.
I'm looking forward to the daily trip reports!
My pleasure Bud, complete with pics it will be,.......It's a toss up as to whether it's on the bike or in the Z3 as Steph is undecided as to whether she will come or not,.....either way, i'm going,.....
I don't understand the indecision Al, you know you want to ride the South Island and to roll into Invers on a Scout......I reckon Steph would enjoy a relaxing flight down.
If She decides to come it will not be on the bike as she has not ridden with me since my incident with the Harley,.....Case closed so the only other option is we both fly down or we both take a tour in the Beemer. I like the Beemer tour if Steph is coming too,......
You will have a great trip which ever way it turns out. You're going to enjoy the bike history in Invers. And then digging into a bit of family history on the coast, bonus.
What is the title, author, etc? Please provide all deets.
I would Scot only the library is 300 miles away and I don't recall any details like title etc,....sorry Bud,.....maybe if you do the 'search Google for image' thing it may come up,.....
PS,.......People will surprise you,........Steph's dad, Murray who is tighter than a fish's 'ask your mother' with his money came around the other day and said Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Al!,......and handed me a book,....'Burt Munro,.....The Lost Interviews'. ,......Damn good read so far,.....this from a man who would not give you the wrapping off his fish and chips!!
I could have been from "The Encyclopedia of New Zealand", Southland Region, sports & Recreation section.
In any case, this looks like a page from a a book about NZ as a whole, as indicated by "Regions" on the left page, upper left; "Southland" on the right page, upper right, and then the "Invercargill" heading.
I do think you are right with all those clues jogging my memory,.....Well done Bud,.....
Tenacity and a Can Do attitude has no limits
Amazing, unthinkable, extraordinary, are a few words that pop in my mind reading that. I do hope he has a part of Indian Motorcycle headquarters dedicated to him. He really is Mr Indian above anyone else. Legend.
