I recently joined an IMRG chapter. I only know one member and have not ridden with any of the members.

A couple days ago, I received an email that had the below opening paragraph in it. There was much more but this is all that I think you need to see.

For the life of me, I cannot imagine why anyone would extend such an offer to someone they don’t even know.

I did thank them and declined their offer. 2B3BA9C2-1413-4139-B50C-C165A98065F4.jpeg

That is pretty amazing. I’m sure you have the talent. But like you said they’ve never ridden with you. Kinda makes me wonder what would be discussed at the captains meeting.

Sounds almost like scam emails I get. It didn't include a line like, " because this is a paid position please supply your bank account details in the area provided below so we can direct your first payment to you now!".

You should totally show up to the meeting and lay out your Hoka Hey route and let them know when they're supposed to show up. Just scare dufuq outta them and they'll reconsider on their own.

Only problem with that scenario is I don’t have a clue as to what the HHC route is going to be. That would be fun though.

Wouldn't really matter. Just give em the the route mileage, per day. You'll quickly be sitting alone in your garage again. Most folks don't REALLY ride.

Well...that chapter found a way to "run off" prospective and new members. I don't blame you for declining.

That kind of thing is exactly why I only belong to some national clubs, but no longer bother with chapters. I used to get involved at the chapter level, but it always seemed to be the same few people that really contributed or were interested in taking a meaningful role in activities. It gets old in a hurry and takes the fun out of just riding. Sorry for the rant...

Sad but true. I’ve been a member of the other brand national group for a long long time. I live in the middle of 3 overlapping local groups. 2 of them will let non members of that group ride as a guest. Just sign the waver. One group won’t let non members of that group ride after 2 guest rides even if you’re a national member. Talk about a click but considering the sponsoring dealership and some of the stuck up members I’m not really surprised. They always made me feel like what are you doing here. Just for kicks me and a bud of mine who rides an RM swapped rides and stopped by that dealership on ride day. I pulled right up to where most of them were parked. Not one word said but the looks were priceless.

I used to be a member of ABATE of Washington - Inland Empire Chapter - and we had the same issue - about 5 or 6 of us doing everything and all the rest only wanting to party, plus their idea of a ride was 10 miles to the next bar. So a few of us broke off and started a chapter in Northern Idaho, but soon that one got taken over buy the same type of people. So I just stopped the group thing and now write letters on my own. And I ride mostly on my own too. But it is fun to meet up with groups sometimes, especially when you get to meet people from the forums.

Keep up the good work and next week you may be able to move up to chapter president.

Main reason I joined is for the 10% discount at the sponsoring dealer.

They do have some great rides to cool locations. My thing is not riding in a group though. I figure I can just leave early or hang out for a while after they leave and meet them wherever they are going. I don’t mind hanging out but refuse to ride with a group. I avoid riding with even one other bike if I can.

I like riding at the rear if I'm with other bikes. I've had a couple experiences where I was leading and someone not quite as experienced tried to keep up and over extended their skill level. Both times they ended up in the ditch. I would far rather ride behind and catch up with the others if I need to. Makes for a much more enjoyable ride.

Like you guys I am not a fan of group rides either. 6 or 8 is about my max and I too prefer the back of the pack.

I don't think that was a rant Buddy, it pretty much laid out how I feel too. I've been associated with a Harley chapter and a couple of other larger rider groups and quite frankly, ( and no insult to the ladies intended) they acted in the main like a pack of old women. That I can do without so now I ride with a few mates only or go out on my own.

I agree 100%. I hate leading. I am always looking in my mirror to make sure the rest of the group is close behind, I ride slower than normal so as not to over extend the skill level of the newbies (which pisses off the more experienced) and I don't stop much - which seems to piss off most of the group - I thought we were riding, not Bar Hopping!
