I'm resurrecting this horse as I'm close to a decision. Brake Away Products 7CP05: ATLAS Throttle Lock: I know there's other options. I don't want a bar-end throttle lock.
I received a parcel today with a 'sort of' throttle lock,......very, very basic and will put up pics tomorrow,..... Alpal
Hi Scot,….. Here is what I use as a cramp buster and a primitive throttle lock,…..basic but functional,….. I fitted a set of Avon grips complete with cramp buster,……. Eases the wrist on a trip and has built in throttle release,…….as soon as you take your hand off the handlebar,…… And someone’s been a lazy boy,…… it’s about time I blew the wood dust off Gertruda and took her for a run,……haven’t had her out for three weeks now,….. What a choice> To have 2 great bikes! You remember I had the same Intruder. Here she is, or was, so to speak!
Clever boy!,...I see you got the fast one!,......seriously they are a great bike,.......simply go forever,....Did the front forks come red or was that something you did?,........ Alpal
I think they must've been stock the model I had (800), because I know I wasn't a good enough painter to do those. Yeah the red was fast, but not as fast as my first Scout! Remember this badboy? I miss it, but this time around I bought a black 2018, I felt like another red Scout would be an insult to the memory of my 1st baby.
Yeah,....sorry @ScotD ,......apologies,.......( Yes SixShooter!!!!,...I remember the panniers!!!!!,..) Alpal
For what it's worth, if I was choosing between the two you're looking at then I'd go with the brake away. Just for interest: A couple of years ago I made my own throttle assist and have been using it ever since. Sure miss it when I ride other bikes. Best modification I've done to a bike period. Thanks, I considered McCruise a few years back and would have bought one then except they hadn't yet developed one for the Scout. When they eventually emailed me with the good news I'd already fitted a throttle assist and moved on. Cruise control would be nice on my next bike.
Tha cramp buster looks really nice, I'm considering getting one myself. I was thinking about getting one of those Kuryakyn grips that have a cramp buster extra that you can add to the end, like the ISO or the Kinetic Throttle Boss, but I don't think either of those grips are made for the Scout. For some reason I hadn't considered Avon grips, so you've just opened up a whole new window of options for me. Thanks for that! Also, love the decal on the tank, and the Intruder too!
The drawbacks on the CrampBuster are 1.) You have to keep your throttle hand on the bar and 2.) It takes a little bit of fiddling with the position, moving it so it's in the best location after your hand is relaxed.
Second those observations and also found that when you ride over rough roads you can sometimes get unwanted throttle input.
Thanks Bud,.......I have found that the cramp busters that fit over the handgrip are ok to begin with but tend to slip with age. The Avon buster is built into the grip and is adjustable by a screw inside the handgrip. I have used Avon grips with the buster on both my Scouts and been mighty pleased with them. Did a 100 mile ride yesterday and arrived home very happy with the now correctly adjusted cream-buster. Alpal
I agree with the 'unwanted throttle input' Rodd. The earlier 'busters' I used were prone to that. It is lessened greatly with the Avon built in buster as the grip is longer than the standard grip and the buster is of a smaller size also. The hand is spread out seemingly more flatter and thus more conformably over both the grip and the buster which helps to limit the unwanted 'input' to virtually nothing. ( Of course Southern riders suffer more from unwanted input because their roads are not as smooth as ours up in the north!) Alpal,.......
Mmmh, hadn't considered those problems. I might try one of the cheap 10-bucks clip-on ones first, to see if I like the feel of a clamp buster, before commiting to one that's integrated in the grip. After all, if I really don't like it, I can just un-clip it and all I've lost is 10 bucks. Thanks for the feedback!
