    Hi all,
Have been talking to @Creek about a Scout seat problem he has and he mentioned that the front rubber grommet which pushes over the post at the front of the seat had split,.......low and behold as I tried to sort his problem I noticed my seat would not go down at the front,.....removed the seat again and bugger me if my rubber grommet wasn’t split as well,......it had been getting hard to push and pull so there is your clue,.....apply rubber grease now,.....

well,.....Creek and I are to blame for the grommet/bush splitting,......because it, over the years has gone bone dry as when I have done my maintainence I haven’t put any rubber grease on the grommet so my advise to all Scout owners and for even the big sister boys, where you have push/pull rubber fittings, side covers and the like, dab a little rubber grease around,......it will save you time and money and frustration.

OEM bush torn from lack of lube,.....

Alpal’s fix,...,,I found a bush from my Intruder, a bush with a shoulder each side and with great difficulty managed to get the inner shoulder through the hole in the seat. The bush is either from the Intruder muffler mount, the bottom radiator mount or from the fuel tank mount,......don’t recall which,....but it works,.....I expect a bush could be got from a hardware store easily enough. And note that both the bush and the post it goes over are now nicely lubed,.......

I also had the same problem within six months of new ownership, took quite a bit of drama to have this replaced under warranty.

Yes, also learned that the hard way after ripping the first grommet out of the seat early in the game and having to buy a new one. Thought it was probably just me; but now that I think about it the dealer did have grommets in stock.
