Will it work??? I bought a RM leather trunk. I have a line on a RM Classic Trunk Base. I believe the Classic used the same bags as the Vintage so I'm thinking the spools should work. The base comes with spools also. If I have to change spools that's OK. Cannot find much info because they don't make them anymore.

I believe the spacing between the spools is the same, but the spool size is slightly different. Pretty easy fix....good luck- John

    Wait...wait...

I just re-read this. The answer may be based on the model year. Roadmasters have Chieftain spools, but all the spool diameters are the same now. Vintage spools would have been the smaller diameter.
The Roadmaster Classic may have had the same spool diameter as a regular Roadmaster with bags made for it. I say this cuz I've never heard of a Vintage with other bags than original on it, even though all those leather issues were a thing in 2015/16.
I'd check the part numbers. It's not a big deal to mod spools, you just need to know.

It will work. The only thing is you might have to swap out Spools which is a very easy thing to do.

RM Classic base is on it's way. This is made specifically for the leather trunk. So if the bags are the same as Vintage bags, I am hoping this base will fit right on.

You might want to order RM Classic spools. The part numbers seem different.

I didn't find that but thanks for the research. The rack is brand new, still in box. It comes with spools. Don't know what they might be for, but it shipped out from Arizona this morn so I should get it fairly quick. Here's what the mounting kit looks like.

Those appear to be the plastic sleeves (covers) that go over the spools.

Done! The trick was to be able to swap my Vintage backrest and the trunk as easily as a quick release. Since they take different size spools it took a little imagination.
I left the small spools and sleeves on and made these. They are made from a 1" diameter piece of poly pipe. 2' cost $1.50 at Home Depot. They were slightly loose over the small spool sleeve so I lined the inside with a strip of denim from the wife's material stash for sewing and silicon. Notice I cut them so they snap on and off. They are about 1/8" narrower then the spool so that the Vintage bags can still go on. These can go on and off even with the bags on.
So now I can ride with the stock back rest or the trunk. The only extra step from quick release is to snap these on and off, about 30 seconds( probably quicker if you don't have big hands!).

Anyway, this is what it looks like.

That's excellent! It's also a mod I've been considering once funding is in place, and now I can see what it would actually look like on my bike. ;) Quick release and everything. Thanks for doing all the leg-work for me Bru!

The trunk matches fine. My leather has weathered a bit but the trunk was only on the guys bike for 300 miles. My backrest is a Distressed tan so it doesn't match at all. Going to Tandy tomorrow and pick up some Desert Tan dye and give it a try...
