I need to find a gas cap that is angular so my old arthritic hands can open it easily. Indian has nothing yet and I don't want to order a 'pig in a poke' only to find out it won't fit. If someone would be so kind...could you check if the HD gas cap fits your Indian. If so...I have a world of options.

    Thank you in advance.

The gas cap from my 03 fits, but never heard it lock down, (you know that click when it is secured) when I tried it. For what it is worth my crude measurements (Did not have glasses on) said that both of their shafts was 2 1/4 circumference and 1 1/2 in length.

That tells us a lot about you. I don't think you needed to divulge that. Ahahahaha.

@Gina, thanks for your help. I'm wondering if it makes any difference on the clicking. The other thing is the seal on the underside @DrZ .

I was also thinking, if you try the HD cap, see if the parts people have a take off from a bike or go to a bone yard that has some HD's in it.

Called my Indian house and asked my salesman to go outside....pull a gas cap off one of the trade in HDs and put it on a RM. Said it fit well. Now he didn't expound on if it clicked or not. So....now all I need to do is go to a scooter shop and find a vented gas cap that I can turn with these old paws.

Thanks to everyone for your assistance.

Went to my local HD house and looked at all their used scoots. With the owner's permission, I started pulling gas caps and trying them on my RM. Finally found one I liked and went in to price it. As is the norm with a HD house....this NON-HD cap was priced at $85. Told them I would get back to them. Drove downtown and checked out a used scoot house. Hanging on the wall...was the same cap priced...out the door...at 48.60. Took it out to my scoot...took off the secondary washer it had on and screwed it in place. Here is the look.

The art deco on the top hangs over the edge enough that I can grab with my finger and thumb and turn it easily. I think it looks pretty good on the scoot.

For general information....Our Chief line uses the following:
82 - on HD tanks, RH thread, vented gas caps work on our scoots.
So...you now have various options in your want to change your gas caps!

    Thanks to everyone.

Have you filled tank and gone for a ride yet? Reason I ask, is one time I did a different cap and everything seemed peachy, until a full tank running down road, then gas running across top of tank. Now with the Indians, there is a gap between gas and cap, but sitting upright gas probably comes up higher when off kickstand...............just sayin', better safe than sorry.

I tested it on a 4K mile ride. Not an issue.

    I do understand the concern.
