Well the mystery is finally solved, this monster is, after 3 days of digging through old service manuals, antique HD books, online searches, I finally called HD and had the vin ran, parts guy, Josh says, “ she’s got a FXEF-80 Super Glide frame and the engine vin is a FXSB-80 Low Rider Sturgis engine built in 1983. He also said she’s a, “odd duck”. The problem back then is they just put anything and everything together. So you may have parts from a Sportster on a Wide Glide, which is what I have for the frontend. And a engine for something else, a Low Rider Sturgis. The front fender is HD but still haven’t found out what model. Counted up the wheel spokes last night, rear has 84 spokes and the front has 80 spokes. These are not cheap, by today’s prices they are $750-$950 dollar wheels. Josh told me, this was probably built this way at the factory, and may be one of a kind special build or they may have built several just like it”. Have to keep looking around as I tear into it. Got the tank soaking in dawn dish soap to cut the varnish and crap out of it. Tonight I hope to put some rust remover in it for 24-48 hours then start rebuilding the carb and replace fuel lines, battery and find the short or ground she has. Hope to have her back running by next week if I’m lucky.
