This rack (avail at IndianAfterMarket.com) is originally made with plastic tube spacers and cap nuts on each end of the rods. The Easy Brackets used are Easy Brackets - Excelsior Henderson Super X. I worked with the inventor to determine best fit for the Rack. 1. I bought stainless steel tube to replace the plastic spacers. The stainless steel tube dimensions is 3/4 inch OD, 0.438 ID, with a wall of 0.156. I had a machine shop cut the stainless tube with a slow-cut horizontal band saw to the following: Outside edge tubes: 2 1/8 " (Two and one-eight inches) Center tubes: 2 " (Two inches) 2. Moved (elongate) the rear holes to the rear in the rack that the stainless threaded rod passes through by 1/8" (one-eight inch). This part was easy, going real slow with the appropriate-sized drill bit. I) did NOT drill, I used the side of the bity as a rotary file. This is so the Easy Brackets spools will line up with the Easy Brackets. 3. Threaded the Easy Bracket spools to the same thread as the threaded rod. This was relatively easy. I used scrap leather in a vise to hold it while threading and...took...my...time. 4. Test assembled, making certain the Easy Brackets lined up AND could be added/removed from the Rack. This also required installing the modified rack. My assembly was spot on so I didn't need to adjust. Do a test-fit of rack AND Easy Brackets anyway. 5. Finally, after snuggling spools down as tight as I could get them without digging deep into the rack I backed them off one-at-a-time and then used Loctite 271, and reinstalled. From there, use what ever mounting you need to attack your bags to the Easy Brackets. My bags are Osprey Saddlebags.
Thank you! I was able to strap down a 20lb Propane tank in a box for 30-mile highway ride, and able to make a rig for a sturdy plastic milk crate on top. First trip with the milk crate was a 5 hour each way trip to bring back 9 jars of Sorghum from Ethridge TN.
