Following on from Motorcycle Mecca we visited the Hayes Hardware Store and the home of Burt's bikes plus some very cool local motoring history and legends.

Burt's Indian Scout and his Velocette. Pretty cool to see them in the flesh.

First run 2015 Indian Scout with #35 Graphics. Pretty sure this bike belongs to Burt's great nephew.

Now my favourite part of the day. Learning that my mate Ross's dad (Morrie Coutts) was a local legend and rode many races with Burt and a local legend in his own rite. He features in two photos proudly displayed in the shop. Very cool.

Hope you enjoy these photos, a great day in awesome company. Finished off with a meal out with Rod and the girls -:) Doesn't get much better than that!

Hi @RBinTEX , sure was some really odd stuff in there. Also had a motor made out of bits and pieces out of the shed for a 10 pound bet. One of the store staff started it up for us, truly a Kiwi shed invention.

Hey @Alpal , sure is a must do trip and even better on a Scout-:). We scored some very cheap flights into Queenstown several months ago which were such good value. Rented a car for a few days and drove down to Invercargill and back up to Queenstown again. Toured the Catlins on Saturday, bike Mecca and Hayes Store IMG_4553.JPG Sunday and then a ride around Invercargill Monday morning in my mates 1930 Chrysler (Aptly named Walter)

How far are y’all from there? I just assumed that place would be old news to you guys. I guess it just shows how much we can take geography for granted. In my mind, y’all zip around to Invercargill and head on over to Australia for dinner. :D

    Awesome pictures!

From Marton its about 750 miles with a trip on the ferry in the middle,......Yeah,....I know,.....750 miles to YOU guys is pretty straight forward, the key word being,.......straight!,......Here in Burtland we don't have so many straights but what we do have is plenty of hills and hills create curves,........think of something like the Tail of the Dragon and you have an idea of Burtland roads,......And we love it! The roads do get a little straighter on the East Coast of the South Island however so some time can be made up but its still a long haul from my place,........a couple of days will see me there,.......unless Steph comes and we decide to fly and hire a car,.....

Hi @Gator Mcklusky, 1305 kms from my place (Hawkes Bay, East Coast of the North Island) to Invercargill. And as Alpal mentioned, a 3 hour ferry crossing between the Islands. My wife is not up to a road trip of that distance so we took two flights totalling 2.5 hours and a 2.5 hour drive but we choose to to see some of the wonderful scenery in the South with a few days in and around Queenstown area enroute. We are so lucky to live in this country, spectacular!

    I'm in.
Let me know if you're going to fly; I'll ride down again like last weekend and meet you in Invercargill, (work permitting). My better half will come along too if she's back in the country by the time the trip's organised. It takes about 7 1/2 hours saddle time from here, although the return leg last weekend was quite a bit longer because I turned inland away from SH1 and took a more scenic route home.
On the other hand if you decide to ride then we'll ride up north and meet you at the ferry so we can ride down together. Finer details can be worked out later.

Hey Rod, awesome trip! We were relieved to see the rain held off for your return home. That was one heck of a coffee run, you must have clocked up about 1300 km round trip-:) Great to catch up and thanks for joining us, one of those special days in life for sure.
