In the quest for the epic wheelie shot, sometimes things go wrong. Iron & Air was out with for the Press Launch of the R NineT Scrambler and had a bit of a whoopsie. Their rider, Jason Paul Michaels, did some thorough testing on those Ugly Bros. jeans, Bell Moto 3, and RSD jacket. Ouch! I have been on plenty of press rides and this is never something you want to see and more so be the rider... YIKES.
Ouch. Poor rider probably feels a little embarrassed - that's worse than the Pain of the scrapes sometimes.
While they didn't post the loop out photos, the way that I understand it, he was bringing the wheel up on the incline of the road and as the road rolled, flattened, and declined, the bike got away from him. He wasn't covering the rear brake and looped out. The bike did not fail, it was more a failure in the rider setup and reactions. Accidents happen and this was certainly a bummer as the R nineT Scrambler is a 2017 model for BMW, not yet available to the public.
I can't see how the bike did not fail with the drive shaft housing snapped I guess maybe when it looped out and relanded there was some sort of weird shear force Having had both an RT and GSA it's amazing to see that kind of damage
Tough to be on that rear brake performing a standing wheelie! (for my foot at least...). At least he got paid to crash someone elses bike! - JJ
Had my GSA off road many times, class iv quite often, what a fat girl to dance with Did the Trans-Lab (west to east) fully loaded, all saddle bags and tank bag averaging 50-60 miles an hour (300-400 mile days) of totally destroyed roads and no issue, now as for me, well that's a different story Just my $0.02
I guess things like this remind me why I attempt to keep both wheels on the road! My bones are not as hard and I tend to heal slower these days. My butt hurts just from seeing the pix. Semper Fi, Z
