I'm relatively new here and noticed there aren't many posts from Springfield owners. I started with a Scout last year and love that bike, but wanted something bigger. On November 28th I bought a new 2019 Springfield Dark Horse and am loving it too. Very different than the Scout, but still an old school look. Performance is awesome, and the power is so different than the Scout. In the end, the Springfield DH is my daily ride. Anyone else love their Springfield? Here's a pic of my SFDH, and a pic of my wife with the Scout, which by the way is a perfect size bike for her. She's having a blast and we love riding together. Just got back from a 700 mile trip to St. Augustine, FL for our Anniversary
I unfortunately totaled mine a while back. I absolutely loved it and made a point of riding it every day. I cannot think of anything related to comfort, power or handling I did not like. I’m glad you’re enjoying yours which by the way, is a beautiful ride.
Love my Springfield.... purchased in 2016. It's been a rock solid bike to this point. My wife likes the roll of passenger. I've tried talking her into a Scout but she doesn't seem interested.
Bought mine in 16. Best touring bike I ever owned. That's a nice looking bike by the way. If you ever ride south hit me up. I'm in way south Miami.
2018 DH, has 41k on it now. This was early May 2019 in Buffalo Wyoming. Was headed to Deadwood. Did a 10 day ride, about 4700 miles. SoCal through Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, South Dakota, New Mexico, Arizona ........ Mt Rushmore, Rocky Mountain National Park, Nederland CO, Silverton, Million $ Highway, Four Corners monument, Dutch John, Sedona, Flagstaff, Hoover Dam, Las Vegas........Epic!
I prefer no windshield, but if you have to have one....and I branded it too....try to post a pic later...
Laurie absolutely loves the Scout. Did a Poker Run today for fallen police officers and met some other woman riding Scouts. Has she rode one yet? Such a great bike.
She knows how to ride but has been a few years. I think it's a confidence thing and riding on back is to easy.
If I had time for another bike it would absolutely be a Springfield (the classic one). I love the looks of the bike, and the hard saddlebags. I love my RM, but for more "daily rider" type of riding I would love the Springfield.
Laurie was originally going to ride on back, then she got her motorcycle endorsement and decided she was going to do it. She was scared to death. Over the next few weeks she was not confident at all and we stayed very close to home to practice. Used a church parking lot and a road that is hardly ever traveled. She got a little more confidence, especially in slow maneuvers and u-turns, and we expanded our rides. That was 5 months ago. Last weekend we did a 700 mile trip to St. Augustine and back. She rides great and is so comfortable now. I hope your wife will give it a try. It takes time, but she can do it. And riding together versus her riding on back is so much more fun for both of us.
No she hasn't. I think I would lean toward a Janus Motorcycle.Home - Janus Motorcycles It would be a great bike for her to ride around locally with me. She would never consider a long distance ride on a bike. 90% of our riding is county roads covering 150 mile radius from the homestead.
I would say 90% of our rides and county roads and we still don't go on a highway. The 700 mile trip was all county roads, so we took our time and just did some sight seeing. By the way, Laurie started on a Scout Sixty, which is a bit smaller CC and really easy to ride. I've never heard of a Janus but checked them out and they are very old school looking. Very cool. Good luck and I hope you can find a way to get her comfortable.
Thanks.... made in the neighboring State of Indiana. The dang things are so light weight helping her holding up the bike at a stoplight and slow manuvering. She'll turn 60 this year so *if* it happens this is more likely. We enjoy each other's company regardless..... and she keeps me in check.
I've enjoyed many a ride along with my wife on hers. She's just gotten to the point where I think she'd just rather ride on the back and not have to worry about traffic, etc. She hasn't ridden her own in about 6 years. I ride hers about once per year just to exercise it a bit, but otherwise it just sits in the garage with battery tender on.
