Hiya guys. Some of you might remember me from a few years ago. Had to sell my beautiful Willow Green Vintage due to, basically, physical limitations. How I hated to part with that bike! So, now I've got this twisted idea of possibly getting a Scout 60. Almost half the weight of my Vintage and it would allow me to get back with the Legion Riders. But I also have this little voice in my head that's screaming at me saying that I'm a nut even thinking about getting back on a bike at 70 years old. I'll probably go through the motions of investigating the Scout 60, checking Cycle Trader for a nice used Scout or even configuring a brand new 60. Will I go through with it? Can't tell at present as that little voice is really adamant that it's a wrong move for me at this age. Just kinda curious what the sentiment might be among all you Indian riders out there? In any event, its just nice posting here again. A nostalgic moment.
70 is just a number. I'm 75 and will be 76 at the end of the year. I have a 2200 mile trip planned the first of October and other than having to piss every 15 minutes I think I'll be fine. I did a couple trips totally 7000 miles a few years back and had concerns of whether my back could handle it or if I could go station to station before I blew a kidney. Was rained on in three states one day but never had a back problem and never pissed myself. Wind therapy is way different than holding down the recliner, go for it man.
Riding is in your blood and God gave you your ENTIRE life to live. I say you keep going until you run out.
Life is not a dress rehearsal . . . and unless you are into Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism or Sikhism - and therefore believe in reincarnation, you get but one shot at being a mortal ! I say squeeze every drop out of it, or go down trying.
Ask yourself two questions,......... Why the hell am I getting another Bike?,........... WHY NOT????????? (Be sure to get a red one,.......They go faster!!!!!) Alpal
Almost 72 and still in the wind .. Plan to stay that way until I feel it's not safe to me or others ..
@Max's 57 So how bad do you miss having your knee's in the breeze? Would you consider a trike, just to keep riding in the open air? Not knowing your health history, how strong/weak your legs are, how bad/good your knee's are, etc, I would hate to say damn right get another bike, which was my first thought. I would feel guilty as hell if you were to hurt yourself based on my recommendation. On the other hand....I have witnessed my great-grandparents and grandparents wither away in a home. So, my recommendation is do what fits you and your family's situation. 4T
I feel for you brother. I'll be hitting the big seven oh this spring . My Roadmaster is becoming a bit of a hassle to keep up too.I'm going to go with the Chief Dark Horse. It's lighter but still has the big power. Go with what makes sense to you but get something. Nothing makes me feel younger than riding on two wheels. Good luck and welcome back.
I hear ya, guys,,,. In all honesty, I'd have to find a Scout for a test ride just to make sure I'm still safe on the road. A trike was mentioned and I did have one a few years ago. But anything decent costs way too much for me to justify that kind of expense at this point in time. I really appreciate all the responses and support! Lets see what develops as time passes.
No, you are not a nut for thinking that. I am 68 years old, almost 69 now. I had to trike out my 2016 Vintage so that the wife and I could still ride together. The reason was not due to my age, but due to my second battle with cancer which caused me to lose a lot of muscle mass. The end of this month I will take my last injection and my second battle will be over. I have a Sportster that I ride when I want to ride solo and it is half the weight of the Chief. I started riding in 1967 and will continue to do so as long as I can get on the bike! If the cancer shows up again, I will kick its ass for a 3rd time. I have said all my life that when I can no longer ride, I have lived to long!!! Get that Scout 60 and ride till the END!
Hiya Guys, Just a heads up. I called the closest Indian dealership today. (just under 50 miles away). Spoke to a salesman informing him of my situation and reservations. He was very positive and informative. To make a long story short, I'm going to meet him next Tuesday morning for a test drive. He also mentioned that they just took in a used Scout 60 in black, on a trade. It hasn't been inspected or serviced yet, but who knows, this just might work out if all goes well on the test run. We'll see. Again, just wanted to thank all of you who participated in this post with your recommendations and positive support.
I concur!,.....I mean this is big!,.....The guy could be buying a Scout!,,,,....Best bike on the world!,.....Ok it's black but easily souped up!,......Red Buddy @Max's 57 !!!!,......put some red on it and it will go faster! True,........If Burt was still here He'd tell ya!!!! Alpal (Always ask Alpal for a completely unbiased opinion,......He's not called honest Al for nothing!!!!!,.....)
